Police identify diamond set thieves
LAHORE: Sadar Division police claimed to have identified thieves, who stole a Rs 500,000 diamond set at a jewelry stall of Indian traders at Expo Centre on Monday.
SP Shoaib Khurram said that they had identified a gang of three thieves including a woman aged between 25 and 28 years. He said teams had been sent to nab the accused. He said they would not only arrest them but also recover the stolen set in 24 hours. He said CCPO Ahmad Raza Tahir might disclose the recovery and arrest of the accused on Tuesday (today) in a press briefing.
Sources said police investigators had identified the thieves in CCTV cameras at Expo Centre on Monday. They added CRO branch officials had also made some sketches from statements of Indian traders which helped police identify the accused.
The CCTV footage shows a thief stealing the set while his accomplice covered him. Sources said at the same time a woman acted unconsciousness which helped the two men flee. Sources said Kamal Kant, an Indian trader and owner of the stall, chased the thief but failed. It is also learnt that police have already arrested the accused and top cops will present the set to the Indian trader today.
