Inspector General of Police Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar has directed the Regional Police Officers to take result-oriented measures for bringing about a positive change in Thana Culture across the province so that atmosphere of mutual confidence could be enhanced between police and people.
He was addressing RPOs Conference held at CPO here today. Among others the conference was attended by high ranking officers of the police department, CCPO Lahore and all the Regional Police Officers of the province.
The participants of the conference gave a special briefing about the measures taken by them in their respective regions in connection with maintenance of law & order, registration, detection & recovery with special reference to the heinous crime including dacoity, robbery, kidnapping for ransom and terrorism; besides apprehension of Proclaimed Offenders during the special operation, night police patrolling and general hold up, performance of mohalla committees and open kutcheries. The meeting was informed that the recent drive against the outlaws in the province has yielded very positive results which have provided the sense of protection to the general masses.
The IG directed that the operation against Proclaimed Offenders and terrorists should be accelerated, investigation of heinous cases be carried out on emergency basis and the challan free from all legal flaws be timely submitted to the respective courts so that the accused could be awarded suitable punishments. The IG also directed that effective measures should be taken for curbing incidents of cattle theft and canal water theft as well as other heinous crimes and in order to check the performance of police officials, regular inspections of police stations/offices be ensured. He maintained that as the salaries of police has been increased therefore, any sort of corruption in the department would not be tolerated and the police officials found involved in the corruption would be taken to task. The IG directed the senior police officers that the corrupt and inefficient officials should not be spared at all and necessary legal action also be taken against the persons patronizing such corrupt officials; while recommendations for the encouragement of dutiful and honest police officials be sent to CPO.
The IG further directed the RPOs that foolproof security arrangements should be provided to all the ceremonies being celebrated on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi(S.A.W.) and a vigil eye be kept on the movement of terrorists and suspicious persons. Maximum public participation should be ensured at all level in the province for combating against hardened criminals and the terrorists and the citizens visiting the police stations should be dealt with nicely and respectfully and their grievances be redressed immediately, the IG added. He directed that the ban imposed on kite flying and aerial firing by the government should be strictly implemented and the persons indulging in violation should be dealt with severely. The IG warned that in case of complaints of violation the police officers of respective areas would also be held responsible.
