IGP orders inquiry against DSP, SHOs

LAHORE - Inspector General of Police Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar, while taking notice of serious allegations of corruption and abuse of power levelled against DSP Headquarters, SHO Mumtazabad and SHO Kotwali by the citizens, has ordered holding of departmental inquiries against them.

He gave these orders during an open court held at Multan here on Tuesday. A woman levelled charges of taking illegal gratification against SHO Mumtazabad Rao Muhammad Saleem. Taking serious view, the IG directed DPO Khanewal to hold inquiry against the said SHO and taking strict legal/disciplinary action in case of proving charges. Likewise, the police personnel levelled allegations of corruption against DSP Headquarters Multan Ch. Munir Ahmed. The IG directed the CPO Multan to submit him report within three days after conducting inquiry in this connection.

Another resident of Qaise-rabad Sohail Ahmed complained that some persons have occupied his house forcibly. On which, the IG directed the SP Gulgashat Gohar Mushtaq for immediate vacation of complainant’s house from the unlawful occupants. The SP Gulgashat went with the complainant on the spot and after finding his viewpoint correct took legal action against the guilty people and got vacated his house. The applicant thanked the IG for provision of quick relief to him. The resident of Lutafabad Haji Bashir Ahmed complained that his son and daughter have been kidnapped. On which the, IG ordered CPO Multan to ensure the recovery of his children within week and to produce them in the court. Another citizen levelled charges of abuse of power against the SHO Kotwali Inspector Fayyaz Khan. The IG directed SSP Patrolling Multan for taking strict legal and disciplinary action against the said SHO, if charges are proved in the inquiry.

Speaking on the occasion, the IG said that it was need of the hour that maximum cooperation should be enhanced between police and public for purging the province from heinous crime.

He advised the police officers/officials to win over the hearts of public by exhibiting exemplary character and nice behaviour so that the desired results of crack down initiated against the outlaws and proclaimed offenders across the province, could be achieved.

LAHORE- Inspector General of Police Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar will hold an open court here on Tuesday (today) at 4.00 pm in Multan and on June 23 (tomorrow) from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in Muzaffargarh. He will also hold open court at 3.00 pm in Layyah on the same day (June 23).

The IG will listen to the complaints of people regarding police department during these open courts and issue necessary orders on the spot for the redressal of people’s grievances.

Court orders rape case against 3 cops

ADDITIONAL District and Sessions Judge Akhtar Ali Bhadar on Thursday ordered registration of a case under rape and kidnapping sections of PPC against Defense Police Station SHO Inspector Mirza Nasir Baig, Sub-Inspector Babir Bajwa and Constable Shahbaz, who had allegedly detained a girl for many days and raped her.

The petition seeking registration of case against the said police personnel was filed by the counsel of Rabia khan.

Earlier, Rabia while recording her statement before the Cantt court magistrate on Wednesday had alleged that Defense police station SHO Inspector Mirza Nasir Baig, Sub Inspector Babir Bajwa and Constable Shahbaz had detained her for many days and raped her. She was recording her statement before the court under the section of 164 Crpc.

According to the details, Rabia married Husnain Aijaz on February 1, 2010. She said that her uncle Mirza Nasir Baig was not happy with this marriage.

Her uncle had good relations with the said police officials who kidnapped her and detained her in a godown.

They tortured her brutally and got signatures of her on a marriage certificate with Constable Shahbaz, she added. She said that after this her uncle left the place but police officials raped her.

Social crime ratio in Punjab more than Balochistan, Sindh: CCPO

CapitalCityPolice Officer (CCPO) Deputy Inspector General Mohammad Aslam Tareen has said mutual cooperation between police and general public will result in eternal peace, as it will help police in curbing the crime ratio in the society.

The CCPO expressed these views during an exclusive interview to The Nation at his office here on Wednesday.

He said some internal and external hidden forces were behind the heinous criminal acts being committed in various parts across the country especially in the City but all the nefarious designs of the perpetrators would be foiled with firm determination, vigour and honesty.

Regarding the burning issue of terrorism, the CCPO was of the view the City will be purged of this monster as soon as possible. “I am hopeful regarding the complete elimination of non-state actors by adopting a joint strategy among security agencies, police and public,” he added. The DIG said the police and the masses were proud for having such an army which was equipped with latest techniques and war methods, as it was evident from numerous successful operations during the war on terror.

In reply to a query, he said security of property and life of all the citizens including police officers/officials would be ensured at any cost. He said fair investigation and justice for all were two priority-based tasks, which must be fulfilled. The CCPO further said, “We are in transformation period where we badly need huge reforms in the police department besides seeking cooperation from the general public and through imparting moral education among the masses”.

Soon after taking charge as a CCPO, DIG Aslam Tareen at Qilla Gujjar Singh Police Line directed all the divisional superintendents (SPs), deputy superintendent of police (DSPs), senior police officers (SPOs), assistant superintendents of police (ASPs) and station house officers (SHOs) to work with great zeal and honesty otherwise he would never bear any kind of negligence in any part of the department. The DIG further said every SHO would be responsible in case of negligence occurred in his locality. “I will remove the convicted police officer from the police department with immediate effect and appoint him in other department”.

45,155 POs held

In a special crackdown being carried out under the instructions of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, as many as 45,155 notorious proclaimed offenders have been arrested during the last five months across the province.

It was informed to a special meeting chaired by Punjab Inspector General of Police Tariq Saleem Dogar at Central Police Office on Tuesday. The meeting reviewed the pace of progress of crackdown on the hardened criminals and took some important decisions.

The meeting was informed that out of the arrested proclaimed offenders, 2,017 were involved in dacoity incidents, 3,292 in robbery, 197 in kidnapping for ransom and 2,987 in murder cases. The meeting was told that crime graph in the province was declining due to strict action against dangerous criminals. Addressing the meeting, the IGP directed the field police officers that all the resources at their command and professional skills should be utilised to make the crackdown a success so that the people could be provided with complete sense of security by purging society of criminals. He stressed upon the police officers that the network of community policing should be spread in their respective areas so that maximum participation of people could be ensured in the policing affairs.

Funerals of Martyred Cops Held

Funeral prayers of police officers/officials, who embraced martyrdom in terrorists firing in Jinnah Hospital, were offered at District Police Lines here on Tuesday.

Inspector General of Police Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar and officers of Lahore police participated in the funeral prayers. Speaking on this occasion, IG Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar said Punjab Police was fully determined to eliminate terrorism and extremism and in this connection it was fighting with full courage and bravery. Talking to the relatives of policemen who lost their lives in the terrorist incident in Jinnah Hospital, the IGP said that he was deeply grieved on the sad incident.

He told them that Rs 3 million each would be given to the families of the martyred policemen by the Punjab government; while their widows would get life long pay besides government job would be provided to one member of each family.

One shooter for every worship place

LAHORE, May 31: The Punjab police have decided to deploy at least one shooter along with other policemen on the security of worship places in the province.

The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting with IG Tariq Saleem in the chair here on Monday. Acting CCPO Shafiq Ahmed and all divisional SPs were also present.

The IG directed the SPs to monitor deployment of security personnel at worship places and other sensitive points. He said SPs should give a briefing to the officials being deputed at these places. He also directed DSPs and SHOs to apprise their seniors of deployment on a daily basis.

He asked senior officials to select those policemen for the security of sensitive and important places who had done commando training. — Staff Reporter
