Inspector General of Police Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar has directed the Bahawalpur Police to ensure immediate arrest of the accused involved in the incident of Mosque firing and challan of the case should be submitted in the Anti-Terrorist Court
He was presiding over a high level meeting of police officers in Bahawalpur today. Regional Police Officer Bahawalpur Captain (R) Syed Muhammad Abid Qadri, District Police Officer Babar Bakhat Qureshi, District Police Officer Rahim Yar Khan Babar Sarfraz Alpa, District Police Officer Bahawalnagar Mehboob Rashid and other senior police officers participated in the meeting. During the meeting, all the aspects of the incident were reviewed elaborately and the progress so far made by the inquiry team constituted by the IG Punjab in this connection was also discussed. RPO Bahawalpur briefed the meeting regarding measures taken for maintenance of law & order, prevention of terrorism and crime in the region.
While addressing the meeting, the IG said that in the larger interest of nation and country, the persons delivering proactive speeches of sectarian haterdness must be taken to task and zero tolerance policy should be adopted in this regard. A vigil eye should be kept on terrorists and extremists and the special drive underway in this regard be further strengthened, the IG maintained. He said that ban on carrying / displaying of weapons should be implemented strictly and strict action be taken against unlawful use of loud speaker as well as publication/distribution of objectionable literature of sectarian haterdness.
He directed the DPOs for maintaining close liaison with the Ulema Karam of all schools of thought and giving due weightage to their suggestions in connection with maintenance of law & order in their respective areas. The IG further said thatspecial security cover should be provided to the mosques, imam bargahs and other worship places by installing C.C. Cameras there and deploying security personnel during prayer- timings. Later, the IG also met the representative persons of different walks of life including Ulema Karam, traders and local notables and exchanged views with them on maintenance of law & order.
