MIANWALI: The police claimed on Thursday to have foiled a man’s attempt to kidnap a four-year-old girl.

The police said Ayla Bibi was playing outside her house at Wandhi Ghundwali but did not return home. Her family learnt that the girl was taken away by a bearded man.

The missing girl happened to be a relative of District Bar Association President Liaquat Ali Malik who reported the matter to District Police Officer Mujahid Akbar Khan. The DPO alerted the police posts at entry and exit points of the city and a team arrested a suspect near Thal canal and rescued the girl.

Accompanying the police were many people who gave a sound beating to the suspect.

DPO Mujahid Akbar said the police remained on the alert due to military operation against militants nearby.

Initial interrogation revealed the suspect was Muhammad Zubair of Kot Chandna, an Afghan refugee camp.

The police registered a case against Zubair under Section 364-A of the Pakistan Penal Code.
