Inter-district gang of highwaymen held

SAHIWAL, May 8: Police arrested an inter-district gang of bus dacoits including a woman, Sahiwal District Police Officer (DPO) Rana Ayaz Saleem told a press conference.

He said the gangsters were wanted by police of Nankana Sahib, Jhang, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad and Sahiwal districts for highway dacoities and police seized illegal arms and sweets spiked with intoxication from them.

Ghala Mandi police learnt that the gang would target a bus on Sahiwal-Okara Road, and arrested the five gangsters in a Fatumor-to-Sahiwal bus on Saturday night.

Those arrested are: Akbar Ali, of Shahkot, Bashir, of Nankana Sahib, Arshad Ali, of village 567, Lundiyanwali, Muhammad Azam, of 168/RB, and Kosar Bibi, of Lahore.

Station House Officer Rasheed Ahmed said the gang would get on the bus carying arms in the bag of the woman. The woman would handover the pistols to them in bus and the gang holding the driver at gunpoint would take the bus to off road. He said the gang had been striking dacoities for the last four years.
