PITB to help police computerise plaints, crime record

LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer retired Capt Amin Wains said on Monday a complete record of complainants would be maintained and officers trained by the Punjab Information Technology Board would be posted at police stations as receptionists.
 
He said crime rate would be compared at the police station-level besides divisional and district levels. The station house officer of every station would update crime record on computer as well as any increase or decrease in the crime rate daily for the information of the CCPO and other police officers.
 
Biometric attendance system would be introduced to ensure presence of police officers and officials on duty, he said.
 
He said initially the system was being introduced at police lines and police station-level, which would gradually be implemented in the offices of police officers.
 
This was stated by the city police chief during a joint meeting of police and PITB officials at his office. PITB Chairman Dr Umer Saif, DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf and others attended the meeting.
 
Dr Saif, speaking on the occasion, said in order to achieve the objectives of the system, a practicable pilot project would be evolved and implemented and various software were being developed for the purpose. He said PITB would provide help and assistance in this regard.
 
The CCPO requested the PITB chairman to develop a software for maintaining computerised record of use of Lahore police vehicles, their repairs as well as verification of citizens’ record with the help of their ID card number for issuance of character certificate.
