DISTRICT Returning Officer (DRO) of Lahore Nazir Ahmed Ganjana on Wednesday directed CCPO Lahore and PHA Director to get implemented code of conduct in the constituencies of six contestants of elections-2013, including former Punjab Assembly deputy speaker Rana Mashhood after monitoring teams informed the DRO that contestants were violating code of conduct of ECP.

The DRO has issued these directions after monitoring teams informed the DRO that contestants, including PPP-P Aurangzaib Burki, Imran Bhatti PTI, Mian Marghoob, and Rana Mashhood from NA-121 and PP-149 along with Malik Riaz from NA-118 and Yasir Gillani NA-118 were violating code of conduct prescribed by Election Commission of Pakistan.

The monitoring team said in its report that contestants were violating code of conduct by using political hoardings, banners and posters of large size contrary to ECP code of conduct.

After examining the report of monitoring teams the DRO has directed PHA Director and CCPO Lahore to get implemented code of conduct in the constituencies of said contestants.

Earlier, an application was taken up by Additional District and Sessions Judge Rai Ayub Khan Marth, who is also a Returning Officer, against former Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Rana Mashhood for renaming a local hospital after the name of his father.

He said that father of former deputy speaker had nothing to do with construction of the hospital. Mashhood also inaugurated the hospital without informing the Health Department just to gain political motives. He said that the hospital was plastered with PML-N banners, he added.

The petitioner said that this had been done in order to influence voters ahead of the elections.

The petitioner terming Mashhood’s act as pre-poll rigging implored the court to take an action against him. After which the RO directed that a copy of the application be submitted to the monitoring team of the Election Commission of Pakistan. The DRO has directed authorities concerned to submit report in this regard within a week.
