7,000 cops to give security cover to long march

LAHORE: Around 7,000 cops of Lahore Police would provide security cover to the participants of long march of Tahirul Qadri under the supervision of five SPs to be held on January 13 from Lahore for Islamabad to thwart any untoward incident.

Sources in Lahore Police told The News that around six vehicles of Elite Force would provide security to the TMQ Chairman Tahirul Qadri. They added that six commandoes would be deployed in every vehicle of Elite Police Force.

Police officials said armed patrolling would be intensified across the city while two snipers would be deployed on the rooftops of high-rise buildings at a distance of every one kilometre to monitor the movement of the miscreants.

The sources also said five SPs would accompany the long march to monitor security arrangements. Moreover, Lahore CCPO and DIG Operations would also accompany Tahirul Qadri from the beginning of long march in Model Town and till the end of limits of Lahore Police. It is also learnt that security personnel would also be deployed alongside the route of long march in plain clothes.

The march would start from the TMQ Secretariat in Model Town and it will lead to Islamabad via Kalima Chowk, Canal Road, railway station and Shahdara and GT Road. Heavy police contingents would also be deployed at the entry and exit points of the city to step up snap checking while CCTV cameras would also be installed on the route of the long-march in Lahore to ensure proper monitoring from the central control room. Moreover, Punjab government has also directed Rescue 1122 DG to ensure facility of ambulances along long march route to cope with any emergency.
