Operation against dacoits continues

VEHARI: Police claim to have cleared 80 percent of the 200-acre com field in an operation entering its third day on Tuesday against a gang of dacoits that has so far killed a constable and a tracker at Chak 113-WB.
 
Mailsi Deputy Superintendent of Police Shabbir Warraich told Dawn that during the three-day operation one out of the five : dacoits, Khalid, carrying Rs1,3 million head money was killed, besides a tracker, Karam Husain and a constable Rai Arshad were killed in dacoits firing.
 
He claimed that by Tuesday evening 80 percent of the area where the dacoits had been hiding was cleared by police.
He said four accomplices of the dacoits managed to escape during the encounter.
 
He said that as many as 500 policemen from Multan, Lodhran, Khanewal and Vehari were taking part in the operation, while at least 50 teams of elite force and four armored vehicles had also been involved in it. The DSP claimed the remaining part of the field would be cleared soon.
