14 booked for firing on rivals

FAISALABAD: The Jhang Bazaar police registered a case under section 7-ATA against 14 people, including a candidate for the chairman slot, on charges of firing on their rivals.
 
This is a fourth case registered within three days which pertains to a rift over the local body polls.
 
Earlier, three cases were registered by the Ghulam Mohammadabad police station -- two against three brothers of PML-N MPA Malik Nawaz and one against their rivals.
 
The Jhang Bazaar police registered the case against Kashif Pasha, candidate for the chairman slot of the city council 121, Shahid Mehmood, Sajid Husain Anjum, Asif, Sajid, Fahimul Haq, Hafiz Waseem, Yaqoob and six unidentified people under sections 148, 149, 324 of the PPC and the 7-ATA.
 
Sajjad Rafiq, a supporter of Mian Naseer backed by Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah group, submitted in his application that after an election-related meeting he was on way along with his colleagues when suspects armed with pistols threatened him with dire consequences for opening an office of Mian Naseer.
 
He said that suspects opened fire which injured Tariq, Rafiq, Junaid, Naveed, Yasin, Basharat Ali (a passerby) and Shahid Hussain and another person.
 
He said the attackers had tried to get their election office in the main bazaar closed.
