Crackdown on ‘extortionists’

Apr 16, 2013

Faisalabad, April 15: The district police have decided to launch a crackdown on the people extorting money from motorists, drivers of wagons, rickshaws and other public transport.

SSP (Operations) Nafees Gohar during his visit to a police station on Jaranwala Road found some people were forcibly collecting money from motorists near Makoana. The SSP probed the matter and asked the ‘collectors’ under what authority they were doing so. On receiving no answer, he got two people arrested and a case registered with the Khurrianwala police.

Talking to Dawn, Gohar said all SHOs and SDPOs had been directed to initiate proceedings against the people fleecing poor drivers and other motorists.

He said such ‘extortionists’ would be booked under the PPC’s sections of extortion.

He urged the public to file complaints against such elements without fear.
