LAHORE: The police on Tuesday arrested in a shrine a man who killed his wife and injured three relatives through an acid attack in Ravi Road area last month.

“Investigation police have arrested Muhammad Nasir on the premises of a shrine in Shahdara after a successful raid,” a Lahore police official told reporters.

The police said the unemployed man visited his in-laws at Shamspura and threw acid on his estranged wife when she refused to reconcile with him on Feb 9 last. Sakina Bibi, her one-year-old son Ibrahim, sister-in-law Rashida Bibi and brother Shaukat suffered injuries. Sakina succumbed to burns several hours later in hospital.

The Ravi Road police registered a case against the suspect. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Chaudhry Shafique Ahmed took serious notice of the incident and ordered an SSP to personally monitor the progress and ensure the arrest of the killer. The police investigators said the differences developed between the couple after the man sold out his house and spent the money in immoral activities.

SSP Abdul Rab constituted a team which captured the killer in a shrine.
