Foolproof security for cricket series

May 19, 2015

LAHORE: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Dr Haider Ashraf says foolproof security measures have been taken to ensure a smooth cricket series between Zimbabwe and Pakistan at Gadhafi Stadium.

After about six years, the Punjab capital is looking forward to host any international cricket team and the short series against Zimbabwe would be instrumental in helping Pakistan end its isolation in sports.

Equipped with sophisticated weapons and gadgets, some 5,000 police and paramilitary officials would guard the venue of the cricket series with the assistance of two helicopters’ air-surveillance of the stadium and its surroundings, the DIG told Dawn on Monday.

Mr Ashraf said several rehearsals had been conducted to ensure the best possible security to the visiting cricket team.

“We will do our best. It is a matter of prestige of the nation,” he said.

The DIG said that `finest and courteous’ officers had also been selected for checking of cricket-lovers coming to watch matches.
