Three held with 15,000 kites

LAHORE: Ichhra and Sanda police raided on Wednesday two factories making kites and string and arrested three accused in an ongoing crackdown on elements involved in production and sale of kite flying material.

According to a press release, police arrested Razzaq, Shahid and Fiaz alias Phaja and also recovered around 15,000 kites, kite paper and 300 spools of string.

Model Town SP Tariq Aziz and Iqbal Town SP Tauseef Haider on a tip-off constituted teams headed by Ichhra SHO Ehsan Ashraf Butt and Sanda SHO Hamad Akhtar to conduct raids on two factories involved in illegal trade of making kites and related material and supplying it to Peshawar, Gujranwala, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Rawalpindi. Ichhra and Sanda SHOs raided the factory on Band Road and arrested accused Fiaz alias Phaja. More than 2,000 kites and 300 spools of string were also recovered while factory owner Hera managed to escape.

The Ichhra SHO conducted the raid on a factory near Machis Factory and arrested its owner Razzaq and manager Shahid and recovered around 13,000 kites and other material.

The accused were planning to send the material to Peshawar and were engaged in the business for long time.

DIG Operations Rana Abdul Jabbar has announced commendation certificates for SHOs of Ichhra and Sanda.

Meanwhile, police have arrested 170 accused involved in kite flying from various areas of the city during the last one week and registered cases against them.
