Two alleged extortionists arrested

LAHORE, Nov 20: Police claimed on Wednesday to have arrested two alleged extortionists who demanded money from Anarkali traders at different times.
 
SSP (Investigation) Abudur Rab Chaudhry told a news conference accused Mudassir Iqbal and Rana Abbas were arrested by police teams after they made threatening calls to various traders and demanded money up to Rs1 million.
 
He said the police seized several phone SIMs from the arrested suspects, adding the suspects had not yet received extortion from any of the traders.
 
The SSP claimed the suspects had been found involved in criminal cases.
 
He said the Muslim Town police had formally arrested Rana Shoaib who was involved in the murder of an elderly couple at their residence on Saturday last.
 
He said another accused, identified as Ghulam Rasool, was already in police custody, adding the suspects had entered the house to commit robbery.
 
The SSP said the police had still not traced the rapists of a Mughalpura based five-year-old girl.
