Security for Eid, LB polls, Muharram reviewed

LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains says a comprehensive plan has been devised to ensure foolproof security on Eid-ul-Azha, local body elections and Muharram.
 
The CCPO was addressing a meeting held at the Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines here on Sunday to review the security plan for the upcoming three events. DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf, DIG (Investigation) Sultan Chaudhry, SSP (VVIP Security) Athar Ismail, CTO Tayyab Hafeez Cheema, SSP CIA Umar Virk and all divisional SPs, DSPs, SHOs, in-charge investigations and admin officers were present.
 
He said police were carrying out search operations in different areas of the city on a daily basis and were achieving set targets.
 
He said over 10,000 personnel would be deputed in and outside different mosques, recreational places and graveyards to provide security on Eid days.
 
The CCPO said that special security measures had been made to guard voters of political parties during local body elections and strict action would be taken against those carrying weapons and creating law and order situation.
 
Mr Wains said that vigilant security personnel had been directed to take strict action without any discrimination against troublemakers.
 
Dr Ashraf said no banned organization would be allowed to collect hides of sacrificial animals while security had been tightened on all entry and exit points of the city after the Peshawar incident.
 
He directed all divisional SPs and DSPs to monitor regularly the search operations being carried out in different areas and also ensure checking of suspects through biometric machines.
 
The DIG also directed the SPs to ensure search operations, checking of fourth schedulers and their activities on a regular basis to maintain peaceful environment on Eid, local body polls and Muharram.
 
He said police should coordinate with all town municipal officers and assistant commissioners to ensure checking of all beggars operating in different areas of the city.
 
SSP Virk said the menace of terrorism could only be checked by devising a comprehensive strategy.
 
He said the policemen were ready to face the terrorists to guard the nation.
