All resources being utilised for implementation of NAP: CCPO

LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer(CCPO) retired Capt Muhammad Amin Wains on Sunday said Lahore police were fully active for implementation of National Action Plan in the city and action is being taken in all divisions over violation of the of the tenancy act, distribution of objectionable literature, misuse of loudspeaker, supply of illegal weapons and wall chalking.
According to a news release, the CCPO said many as 54 loudspeakers were removed and confiscated from 27 mosques and seminaries in the city on Saturday and cases registered against 42 members of masjid committees for violation of the loudspeaker act.
 
Similarly, six shops and a printing press were sealed for publication of literature hurting religious sentiments of people and sale of CDs about speeches promoting religious hatred. During the crackdown, more than 2,700 suspects have been arrested and 2,603 cases registered against them.
 
Similarly, more than 2,200 loudspeakers and amplifiers, hundreds of books, CDs and pamplhlets containing objectionable material besides 370 weapons, including pistols, mausers and thousands of bullets, have been seized.
 
The CCPO said people would also have to play their due role for rooting out terrorism and supplement the efforts of police against terrorists and anti-social elements as no society could be purged of crime and terrorism without public cooperation. He said Lahore Police were utillising all-out resources for the implementation of the National Action Plan due to which the suicide bomber who attacked the Police Lines could not hit his target.
 
The CCPO said instructions had been issued to all divisional superintendents of police (SPs) not only to monitor those included in Schedule IV but also make it binding upon them to present themselves in police stations at least once a week. He said it was the responsibility of citizens to keep a watchful eye on their neighbours and surroundings and inform local police, SP or emergency 15 in case of any suspect or suspicious activity.
