Dec 23, 2015
LAHORE: After the success of a pilot project launched in 10 police stations of the city, authorities have decided to replicate it in 141 other police stations of Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan districts.

Lahore police had introduced as a pilot project fundamental changes to policing by providing a pleasant atmosphere to visitors, quick response to public complaints and immediate registration of criminal cases, according to a handout.

Punjab Police Inspector General (IG) Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera while addressing a meeting on Tuesday said the project would help provide a friendly environment to complainants in the 141 police stations and create a soft image of the police.

The meeting decided that all civilian IT-oriented boys and girls would be hired through proper means for this project. Later, master trainers of the police department would impart 45-day training to them. The meeting also reviewed in detail the working of Complaint Handling Centre at the Central Police Office.

The meeting decided to evolve a comprehensive strategy to stop lodging of fake first information reports, nomination of innocent people in cases, their arrests and illegal detentions. It also discussed various proposals to change the colour of police uniform.

While discussing the progress of automated teller machine (ATM) cards to be issued to widows of slain police employees for getting scholarships, the IG was told that after clearance of various banks, these cards would be issued by the end of this month. The meeting also reviewed a proposal to shift all other financial benefits for widows to ATM cards.
