Police arrest four money prowlers

LAHORE: The police claimed on Thursday to have arrested four extortionists in various parts of the city. The Green Town police took Aamir Jutt and Ali Raza into custody and seized from them Rs50,000 and weapons. The police said they arrested the gangsters shortly after they got money from the mother of Hina Butt.

Aamir, an employee of a private cell phone company, used to manage call record of potential targets, demand and receive extortion amounts.

The Green Town SHO said Aamir and Ali, who ran a cigarette shop, were being investigated.

A Ghaziabad police team arrested Azhar Abbas who demanded money from a doctor and a businessman by introducing himself as Taliban.

Cantt SP (Operations) Umar Riaz said the suspect, who is a property dealer, had sent letters and text messages to Dr Shabbir of Ghaziabad and trader Munir, asking for millions of rupees.

The SP said no organised gang was currently operating in the Cantt division and that most of the suspects were individuals and non-professionals wishing to make a fast buck.

Gulshan-i-Ravi police captured Sarwar who demanded Rs1m from trader Shakeel.
