RAWALPINDI-Police have thwarted an attempt to smuggle weapons by seizing a huge cache of arms and ammunition from a pickup here on Tuesday.

The alleged smuggler was also arrested on the spot. The recovered arms included fifty-eight 30-bore pistols and 12,500 bullets. The accused was identified as Qabil Shah son of Sher Muhammad, a resident of Peshawar.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Capt (Retd) Bilal Iftikhar while talking to media persons said that during routine check-up, police stopped a suspicious pickup (BC-5118) at Dhoke Hameedan picket at 01:00 p.m. Police found the arms during search and arrested the driver on the spot. It was suggested in preliminary investigation that the accused wanted to smuggle the arms to Abbottabad via Fateh Jang interchange. The arms were bought from Dara Adam Khel, the ASP added.
