Police Swoop on Airport Localities

Jun 26, 2014

LAHORE: Cantonment division police on Wednesday night began a targeted operation against residents of adjacent localities of Allama Iqbal International Airport for failing to update their family and tenants record with the police stations concerned, rounding up dozens of them.

A police source associated with the operation told Dawn that the operation was initiated in the wake of terrorist attack on a PIA plane at Peshawar airport and a few dozen people were also brought to the police stations of Serwer Road, North Cantonment and South Cantonment against certain non-verifications.

Policemen raided Ali Park, Gulshan View Housing Scheme, Nadirabad and a residential locality adjacent to Rangers headquarters and around Bhatta Chowk with a comprehensive database prepared by law-enforcement agencies and started checking violators, the source added.

He said police had started detaining those house owners under Section 55 (arrest of vagabonds, habitual robbers, etc) and 109 (security for good behaviour from vagrants and suspected persons) of CrPC who failed to update latest status of their tenants.

The source said violators would be booked in cases and would be brought to the local magistrates for further action. He said police had so far made compulsory for residents of Askari X, a residential locality adjacent to the airport, to get their tenants registered with the police before renting their properties.---By Our Staff Reporter
