GUJRANWALA: A joint team of law enforcement agencies claimed on Sunday to have seized a huge cache of arms from a truck near the Cantonment on GT Road and arrested three arm smugglers, including their ringleader.
Acting on a tip-off that arms were being smuggled from the tribal area to Punjab in a truck, the law enforcement agencies set up a picket in Rahwali. They stopped the suspected truck and recovered 181 rifles of 12-bore, 54 pistols and hundreds of cartridges from its hidden parts. The law enforcers also arrested ringleader Hyder Ali and his accomplices Allah Meer and Khara Gul.
SSP (Operations) Muhammad Ali Zia told reporters that suspects had confessed that they had already smuggled a huge quantity of arms from the tribal area.
On the lead of the arrested suspects, a team of law enforcers raided the godown of the ringleader and recovered a huge quantity of arms from there as well.
The SSP said that weapons were being smuggled for terror activities in Punjab.
