Mystery of blind murders solved

Dec 27, 2011

LAHORE–The mystery of two ‘blind’ murders has been solved and the killers have been arrested, a high-level police official claimed on Tuesday.

SP Investigation Captain (r) Liaqat Ali Malik told this reporter that three accused killers -- Irfan, Waqar and Asrar -- gunned down the 50-year-old goldsmith Haji Nasir of Faisalabad at Lakhuder Road on December 16 for money.

According to the police concerned, who traced this murder, the killers threw the sack-packed body outside the Gate No-13 of the University of Engineering & Technology in order to dodge the police detectors. “The heartless killers only got Rs700 from the pocket of their victim,” Mughalpura investigation in-charge Inspector Ch Azam Manhais told reporters.

Sharing his investigation with the media persons, the cop said Nasir had often struck businesses deals with Abdul Qayyum of Lakhuder, and his (Qayyum’s) nephew Irfan had been witnessing all the discussions between the two businessmen from his nearby gymnasium in the Haidery Street, where he had employed two brothers Waqar and Asrar.

“Their business deals made Irfan envious and he engaged Nasir for separate deals. At one point he asked his future victim to visit him in Lahore, without giving his tour details to Qayyum,” he added. After killing Nasir on Dec 16, Infan and his accomplices hired the services of three persons, namely, Sham, Gulo and Shahzad, of Mehmood Booti, and assigned them to bury the body. The culprits have confessed to their crime, and an illegal pistol, two mobile phones and two snatched motorbikes have been recovered from them.

Disclosing the details of the second murder, SP Malik said that the Qila Gujjar Singh police have arrested the killer of Iftikhar Ahmed, of Tordher village of Attock after obtaining the CCTV footage of a Motorway camera and sifting of mobile phone calls of the killer. The strangled body of the 25-year-old landlord was found from Room No-117 of Taj Mahal Hotel in the City on Sept 27, 2011. “A Corolla car (QT-923), a mobile phone and some cash were missing from the crime scene,” Qila Gujjar Singh investigation in-charge Inspector Sardar Jameel told this scribe. His killer, Qaisar Jameel, also belongs to Attock, the police official added. The mindless killer, who has confessed to his crime, used to stalk Iftikhar in the company of his friend Shahzad, 25, of Kot Khawaja Saeed in Lahore. “The motive in this muder was also money,” the cop stated.
