Two held for attack on Asghar Nadeem

LAHORE: POLICE have arrested two suspects involved in attack on famous playwright Asghar Nadeem Syed. The accused persons aged between 25 and 30 years of age were arrested from near Wapda Town flats. Some unknown persons had shot at and injured the playwright a couple of days back near Shaukat Khanam Hospital.

CIA Model Town police resolved a case of blind murder of Baqar Ali in the area of Harbanspura police station and arrested the accused.

According to details, CCPO Lahore Ch Shafique Ahmed taking notice of the murder case ordered SP CIA Muhammad Umar Virk to take action, who constituted four police teams for this purpose.The police party headed by DSP CIA Model Town Saleem Mukhtar Butt started investigation of the blind murder case of Baqar Ali.

During the preliminary interrogation, the statements of Shahzad, brother-in-law of the deceased who was an accused in the case were found to be contradictory. It was revealed that Shahzad had married Shazia, sister of the deceased but later, he developed illicit relations with Baqar Ali’s wife Saima. When Shazia came to know about the situation, she quarrelled with her husband and went along with her children to her brothers Baqar and Umar in Manawan. In November 2010, the accused accompanied by his friends shot at and injured Baqar Ali but after recovery he went to the house of his in-laws where accused Shahzad was already present. The two of them had a fight after which accused Shahzad with the help of Saima, her siblings served poisonous substance to Baqar Ali, strangled him and threw his body into a canal.

A case was registered at Harbanspura police station but local police could not trace the culprits, so the case was transferred to CIA. Accused Shahzad has formally been arrested while police is conducting raids for nabbing his accomplices.
