Ulema help sought for Muharram peace

NANKANA SAHIB-District Police Officer Haider Ashraf on Sunday directed police officers to ensure maintenance of law and order during Muharram.

Speaking about security measures for Muharram, he said that as many as 1,802 police officials would man 118 Zuljinnah processions and 353 majalis in the district.

He said that these 1,802 police officials would comprise 5 DSPs, 27 inspectors, 81 sub-inspectors, 115 ASIs, 135 head constables and 1,395 constables, besides policewomen, Punjab Constabulary and civil voluntaries.

He said that rescue cops would also be deputed round the clock. He said that 51 majalis were in A category, 244 in B category and 168 in C category. As many as six fiery speakers had been gagged and 20 ulemas’ entry would be banned in the district limits.

The DPO appealed to uleams to play their role to maintain peace during Muharram. He said that stringent security arrangements had been made at sensitive points in the district. He further said that all roads and streets on the route of Muharram would be sealed.
