LAHORE - Lahore traffic police yesterday launched a two-week awareness campaign to discourage underage drivers.
Police launched the drive to seriously check the practice of juvenile driving following recent deadly accidents involving underage drivers.
Last week, a 16-year-old driver crushed to death a motorcyclist in Johar Town as the schoolboy lost his control over the car because of over-speeding.
Chief Traffic Officer, Tayyab Hafeez Cheema, told reporters that the traffic wardens had taken legal action against 1943 juvenile drivers since the campaign was launched in the metropolis.
The traffic police chief visited a special awareness camp set up at Faisal Chowk on The Mall road yesterday. On this occasion, he said that they released at least 213 juvenile drivers after their parents assured the police in-writing that they would never allow their children to drive unless they get valid licenses.
