LAHORE – Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muhammad Habib-ur-Rehman on Monday lauded the services of policemen for ensuring foolproof security arrangements during Eid holidays despite serious threats.
“The IGP while congratulating the cops has saluted the policemen who left no stone unturned to maintain peace and law and order across the province during Eid holidays,” said a press statement issued from the Lahore Central Police Office.
According to a police spokesperson, the provincial police chief further said that the policemen who provided security cover to the masses by sacrificing family gatherings deserved great appreciation.
Muhammad Habib-ur-Rehman said that the entire police were on high-alert, while the foolproof security arrangements on Eid days had proved the competence and preparedness of the police force.
The police chief has also directed the regional police officers and district police officers to award commendatory certificates to the officers for performing outstanding duties.
Also, the Punjab IGP visited Faisalabad on Monday and presided over a high-level meeting held in the office of the regional police officer (RPO) to review the law and order situation. Faisalabad RPO Aftab Ahmed Cheema gave a detailed briefing to the police chief about the crimes and law and order situation.
Meanwhile, a notorious gangster was shot dead during an armed encounter with Faisalabad police in the Kharianwala area on Monday morning.
A spokesperson of the Punjab police said that the gangster, identified as Muhammad Akbar, was a notorious proclaimed offender and was wanted to the police in several cases of rape, dacoity, murder and kidnappings for ransom.
According to the officials, the provincial government announced Rs500,000 head money on the arrest or killing of the gangster in 2008.
