Crackdown on auto-lifters underway, says CCPO

LAHORE–Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmed Raza Tahir on Thursday said that a massive crackdown is underway against the gangsters involved in auto-lifting as the police successfully smashed eight such gangs by arresting their 67 members during the last two months.

“We have recovered 272 stolen cars and 203 motorcycles from their possession. The recovered cars and motorcycles are being handed over to the original owners,” Ahmed Raza Tahir told reporters while addressing a press conference here at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh on Thursday. He further claimed that at least 45 Proclaimed Offenders and 58 court absconders had also been arrested during the same period.

According to the CCPO, the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Staff (AVLS) of the City police have recovered at least 2690 stolen vehicles including 915 cars and 953 motorcycles during this year so far. He said that the police smashed 45 gangs involved in auto-lifting by arresting their members including the ringleaders this year.

He said the police had been directed to launch crackdown on auto-lifters.
