Crackdown on illegal weapons begins today

LAHORE: DIG Operations, Lahore, Rai Tahir, has directed divisional SPs to launch crackdown on illegal weapons in the provincial metropolis today (Tuesday) to maintain law and order during elections.

He said indiscriminate action would be taken against those possessing illegal weapons. He also said the ban on the display of weapons would be implemented in true spirit. Rai Tahir further said the weapons dealers would also be scrutinised to minimise the chance of illegal supply of weapons and ammunition.

"We will maintain law and order at every cost by utilising all the resources," the DIG maintained. Meanwhile, Lahore CCPO Muhammad Amlish has directed DIG Operations and DIG Investigations to soften crackdown on motorcyclists to save citizens from unnecessary inconvenience.

He said 'applied for' motorcycles should not be closed till 15 days of its purchase. He also said action should not be taken against those bikers who do not carry computerised number plates as the excise department has not started issuing computerised number plates.

On the other hand, Chief Traffic Officer Suhail Ch has said citizens can call City Traffic Police Helpline 0421915 or 0300-7201616 for getting the facility of mobile testing unit at their doorsteps. He said if around 50 citizens have learner licences in one area then they can avail this facility without any delay.
