City police arrested 2,312 criminals last year

LAHORE  - City police smashed at least 937 gangs of criminals by arresting their 2312 members during the last year.
 
A spokesman for the Lahore police yesterday released the annual crime data and said the police showed good performance in 2015. According to him, the city police also arrested at least 19272 proclaimed offenders and court absconders during the previous year. “Lahore police traced 2656 crime cases against the arrested suspects in 2015 and also seized looted valuables worth Rs 150 million from their possession,” Hammad Raza said.
 
According to the spokesman, the city police launched several successful campaigns against criminals under the supervision of DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf last year.
 
On the directions of DIG, all the divisional SPs stepped up their efforts to arrest most wanted criminals.
 
The police registered 5048 cases against 5073 suspects for having illegal weapons last year. The cops also seized at least 90 Kalashnikovs, 291 rifles, 434 guns, 4196 revolvers/ pistols, 8 carbines, 66 daggers, and 107694 bullets from their possession.
 
While taking action against drug-dealers, Lahore police registered at least 6362 cases against 6462 culprits. The police also recovered 558-kg heroine, 1849-kg charas, 30-kg opium, and 45795 bottles of liquor from the possession of arrested drug peddlers. Moreover, at last 1277 cases were registered against gamblers.
 
During the last year, the police also booked at least 7001 suspects for violating the ban imposed on one-wheeling, kite-flying, and aerial firing. The police registered cases against the violators under special laws including beggary, price control, marriage, and foreigner act.
