Auto-lifter gang arrested, 34 vehicles recovered

LAHORE–Anti-Vehicle Lifting Staff (AVLS) of the City police on Thursday claimed to have smashed a gang of auto-lifters by arresting its three members involved in 106 vehicle-theft cases.

The police have also arrested ringleader of the gang, besides recovering 34 stolen vehicles worth Rs27.2 million from the possession of its members.

According to a police spokesperson, Additional IG / CCPO Muhammad Aslam Tareen directed the police to adopt concrete measures for prevention of car-theft and recovery of stolen vehicles.

SP CRO Jamaat Ali Bukhari constituted a team that arrested Nizam Deen alias Shahanshah and his two other accomplices identified as Awais and Jamshed. During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed to investigators that they were involved in theft of 106 vehicles from Lahore. As many as 34 vehicles have been recovered, while efforts are underway for recovery of the remaining vehicles.

According to the police, the accused were residing in posh areas of Lahore and Islamabad, and they kept luxury and expensive cars for their personal use.

The accused are history-sheeters and they committed most of the vehicle-theft incidents in Defense, South Cantonment, Nawab Town, Johar Town, Sattokatla and Township police areas. Further investigations are underway.
