LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmad Raza Tahir on Wednesday ordered immediate crackdown against distribution of provocative and anti-religious material, in addition to giving directions to traffic police to take prompt action against sectarian advertisements pasted on rickshaws’ backs.

As per details, the CCPO gave these orders during a meeting with a 10-member delegation of ulema, which was attended by DIG (Operations) Ghulam Mehmood Dogar and other high-ranking officers. The delegation was led by Dr Raghib Hussain Naeemi.

Tahir called upon the ulema to propagate message of peace, unity and brotherhood among their followers to defeat the nefarious aims of anti-state elements.

He said that religious leaders could play a very important role in maintaining law and order across the province and thwarting evil designs of terrorists. He said that religious harmony was the need of the hour and it was required of the ulema to play a positive and effective role in creating awareness among the masses regarding terrorism and suicide attacks.

The CCPO further appealed the ulema to ensure decent usage of loudspeakers by keeping their volume low and audible only to the audience present, proper checking of persons entering religious places, and establishing parking areas well away from religious venues.
