Aug 05, 2016

LAHORE: Inspector General of Police Punjab (IGP) Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera directed all field officers to chalk out a security plan for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations across the province.

He was heading a security strategy meeting for the Independence Day celebrations at the Central Police Office (CPO) on Thursday. All field officers were addressed through a video link while senior officers of the CPO were present in the meeting.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of special taskforce teams constituted to rescue the runaway children. It was decided to stop the menace of one-wheeling in the province.

Regarding the security on Aug 14, it was decided that no government and private celebrations and activities would be arranged without getting approval from the district intelligence committee which will comprise the DCO, DPO and representatives of intelligence agencies in each district.

All vulnerable points, including important government and sensitive buildings, banks, offices, business centers, public parks, highways, railway stations and bus terminals, will be divided into three categories -- A+, A and B -- under the security strategy finalized by IGP Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of the ongoing crackdown on one-wheelers in Punjab.

Under the instructions of the IGP, the decision of strict legal action will be taken against those mechanics who will be found involved in designing motorcycles for one-wheeling purpose.

A zero-tolerance policy will be implemented in case of violation of one-wheeling and strict legal action will be taken against the violators and their bikes will be impounded under section 99-A of the Motor Vehicle Ordinance.

The IGP decided to constitute children rescue teams across Punjab which would be responsible for rescuing the runaway children and reuniting them with their families.

These teams, to be headed by two inspectors, will not only search the hotspot areas of big cities like railway stations, green markets, bus stands, shrines and hotels but will also be responsible for uniting these children with their families.

The progress report of these teams will be furnished before the IGP on a daily basis, the meeting decided.
