Lahore: Inspector General of Police Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera has directed all Regional and District Police Officers to return vehicles of riverine and inter-provincial check-posts being used for any other purpose in district, within one week.
Letters of displeasure should be issued to the DPOs failed to return the vehicles within due time. He said regular visits of Station House Officer, Circle Officer and District Police Officer respectively once a week, fortnightly and once a month should be ensured.
He directed to deploy technicians for the maintenance of the CCTV cameras and computers installed at inter-provincial check-posts; 24/7 centralised monitoring of all check-posts at Central Police Office should be ensured and not even a single check-post should be out of monitoring schedule, IGP added. Internet connection speed should be improved on all check-posts within two weeks and logistic branch should solve any issue regarding this matter on priority.
Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera stated this while chairing a meeting held at Central Police Office on Monday. Additional IGP Welfare and Finance, Sohail Khan, Additional IGP Operations and Investigation Punjab, Capt (R) Arif Nawaz, DIG PHP, Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, DIG Establishment-II, Salman Chaudhry, DIG SPU, Agha Muhammad Yousuf, AIG Operations, Waqar Abbasi, AIG Development, Kamran Khan, AIG Logistics, Humayun Bashir Tarar and other senior police officers also attended the meeting.
DIG PHP, Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, while briefing the meeting, said, 122,478 vehicles were searched at inter-provincial and motorway entry and exit check-posts and legal action was taken against dozens of vehicles and motorcycles on violating the rule of law. Special teams are also checking these check-posts and submitting performance report on weekly basis.
In response to demand of DIG SPU, Agha Muhammad Yousuf, IGP directed AIG Logistics to provide weaponry, helmets, jackets, shields, CCTV cameras and binoculars to Special Protection Unit without any delay, after completing all legal requirements.
Directing DIG SPU, IGP Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera said, life standard of officials working on security duty of different projects should be improved and utmost care should be given to the cleanliness of their accommodations.
Weekly rest must be allowed to them and they should not be deployed on project sites while travelling more than four hours from their native areas, IGP said.
