LAHORE: In the wake of the recent wave of terrorism, the Punjab Police revisited the security plan for checkposts established at entry and exit points of the province.

As many as 348 police officers have been deployed on border checkposts of Mianwali district and given strict directions to stay vigilant 24 hours.

Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera directed the police officers concerned to make sure the new instructions in accordance with the given plan were implemented in letter and spirit, a handout issued on Tuesday stated.

According to the security plan, six riverine, five border police and six inter-district checkposts have been upgraded in Mianwali. All of these checkposts have been fully equipped with technological facilities and officials deployed there armed with latest weapons.
Night-vision cameras have been installed for digital monitoring with an uninterrupted internet supply. Police have been directed to check movement of stolen, snatched and non-custom paid vehicles through the Anti Vehicle Lifting System by checking data of each vehicle passing through these checkposts.

Each citizen and vehicle passing through checkposts is being checked through biometric as well as smart verification alert systems. These checkposts have been connected to the countrywide data of proclaimed offenders and criminals.

Implementation of these measures is expected to block inter-provincial movement of stolen vehicles, arms, drugs, terrorists and criminals. Fast boats have been made available at all riverine posts of the district for patrolling, the handout further stated. All private boat operators have been registered and the record of passengers travelling through private boats was being monitored.

In addition to these measures, the Dolphin Squad comprising 110 policemen has been established in City, Sadar, Kundian, Piplan, Mochh, Daudkhel, Kalabagh, Wan Bhachran, Isakhel and Kamar Mushani police stations to improve patrolling in the district.

In the wake of these emergency steps, a major decline in street crime has already been registered, the police handout stated.

According to District Police Officer Sadiq Ali Dogar, Mianwali is a very sensitive district situated at the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border. Its 100km border aligns with Kohat, Karak, Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan districts of KP.

Keeping in view the threats, security system of this particular district was being improved further with the purpose to eliminate criminals.
