Wapda, Police win opening matches

LAHORE: Wapda and Police won their respective matches on the opening day of the inaugural IG Punjab Gold Cup Volleyball Tournament at the Wapda Sports Complex here on Wednesday.

While Wapda beat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 25-11, 28-26, 25-21, Police defeated Punjab 25-10, 25-18, 25-22.

After winning the first set easily, Wapda in the second set faced tough fight from KP before clinching it.

At one stage in the second set, KP were leading 19-16 but then Wapda bounced back earning four points on the trot, to take lead. In a seesaw battle, KP again edged ahead 25-24 before the set ended in Wapda’s favour giving them a 2-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Police fared well through their prominent players like Kashif Mansoor and Sajid Iqbal to earn an easy victory against Punjab, who put up some resistance in the second and third sets after being outclassed in the first set.

Thursday’s fixtures: Army vs KP; Navy vs Punjab; Police vs Azad Kashmir.
