Installation of speed governors compulsory in all heavy and light public service vehicles...

As per advisory issued by the Inspector General of the Police Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera to prevent road accidents for protection of precious lives, DIG Traffic Punjab, Farooq Mazhar has sent letter to secretary transport to make installation of speed governors compulsory in all heavy and light public service vehicles, trucks, trailers, tankers, buses and vans. Most of the road accidents are caused by overspeeding and carelessness. According to Article No. 164A of Motor Vehicle Rules 1969, the installation of speed governors in heavy and light public service vehicles including trucks, trailers and tankers is compulsory but implementation of this rule cannot be seen anywhere, this is why installation of speed governors should be ensured immediately in all public service vehicles, says the letter.

DIG Traffic has further stated in the letter that before registration of each new vehicle, it should be ensured that speed governor is installed in the vehicle and is in working condition. Heavy traffic and public service vehicles are not registered without implanting speed governors throughout the world because this device helps to limit speed of vehicle in case of emergency. The letter also said that in initial phase, speed governors should be made compulsory for vehicles running on route A and M, while this should be implemented on all remaining vehicles in second phase.  To protect precious lives, the implementation of Article No. 164A of Motor Vehicle Rules is of utmost importance, speed governors should be installed in all public service vehicles through strict implementation of this rule. Strict action should be taken without any discrimination against persons involved in violation of law.
