Govt to Construct SPU Headquarters with Rs636.7 Million

LAHORE: The Government of Punjab is going to construct Specialised Protection Unit (SPU) Headquarters at Tehsil Ladheikay Uchey, District Raiwind at an estimated cost of Rs636.7 million.

The building will also have a training school, indoor firing range, barracks, quarter of guards and tube well chamber OHR reservoir.
Documents available with The Express Tribune showed that the training school in the building will cost Rs39.5 million, indoor firing range Rs26.5 million, tube well and turbine Rs16.1 million, upper barracks at a cost of Rs137.8 million, HQ at an estimated spending of Rs39.8 million, quarter of guards Rs10 million, Office of DIG (SPU) wing at a cost of Rs35.7 million and stores at a cost of Rs18.9 million.

Besides spending at the above mentioned infrastructure building, Rs27.7 million will be spent on 10% External Development Charges, 5.6 million on  1% Horticulture Charges, 23.4 million on Mega Project Charges,  three million on WAPDA & Sui Gas Charges, 11.8 million on Consultancy Charges and 30.2 million on P.S.T charges.

IG Khawaja lauds Motorway Police

SPU was a specialised force created for protection of foreigners and CPEC projects. Official website of Punjab Police stated that Special Protection Unit (SPU) was created on 23/10/2014 as a dedicated unit for the security of foreigners working at different projects of national importance in the province.

Protection of the premises and important persons notified by Provincial Police Officer, the persons on high risk as notified by the Government of Punjab or IGP/PPO also fall in the ambit of SPU as per SPU Act 2016.
