Two TTP militants arrested

LAHORE - The second batch of police cadets passed out of the training college in Lahore on Wednesday to join the Special Security Unit , a newly raised force to guard foreigners and key government installations in the metropolis.

At least 230 recruits were part of the new police unit and they were given weeks-long training in different fields including multiple engagement, counter-field assassination, anti-hostage, targeting accused during patrolling, and first aid.

Capital city police officer Muhammad Amin Wains while the addressing passing out ceremony at the Police Lines Qila Gujjar said that the SSU personnel were given special training according to the international standards. The Master trainers of the Elite Police Force provided training to the officials, he said.

DIG (Operations) Haider Ashraf, DIG (Investigation) Chaudhry Sultan, DIG (Security) Dr Moeen Masood, Chief Traffic Officer Rai Ijaz Ahmad, SSP (Operations) Muntazir Mehdi, SSP (Discipline) Tariq Aziz, SP (Headquarters) Atif Nazir, and all divisional SPs were also present on this occasion.

Amin Wains said that the basic purpose of the Special Security Unit was to protect foreigners and ensure law and order situation in the city. “Our training module can be tested with any training modules of any country. New initiatives are being introduced in operations and investigation wings,” the CCPO said. “Now, the police station staff will not be engaged for security duties.”

On this occasion, DIG Haider Ashraf said that training modules of Lahore Police are being appreciated in whole the country. He said the police department took different important initiatives to protect the lives and properties of the people.

During the passing parade ceremony, the SSU officials showed their skills and energies before a large audience by performing stunts and acrobats. Spectators applauded amid drum beating as the cadets marched past before the guests.

Meanwhile, CCPO Amin Wains and DIG Haider Ashraf distributed prizes among the officials who showed excellent performance during the training. DIG (investigations) Chaudhry Sultan presented souvenir to the CCPO, who was the chief guest of this occasion.  City police in recent years introduced multiple initiatives to strengthen the law enforcement agency and build capacity of the policemen in various fields. The establishment of Dolphins Force, Anti-riot Fore, Police Response Units, Quick Response Force, and Specialized Investigation Unit are a case in point.
