IGP takes notice of maid’s torture by police

GUJRANAWALA:  Inspector General Police (IGP)  retired Captain Arif Nawaz Khan on Sunday took notice of alleged torture of a young maid by police and sought a report from the city police officer on the incident.

A housemaid was allegedly tortured by Aroop police over the suspicion of theft in the house of a landlord in village Bhamowali. Reports said Anees Bibi, 20, was a maid in the house of landlord, Muhammad Akram, who registered a case against her, alleging that she had stolen some expensive articles from his house. The Aroop station house officer arrested Anees and tortured her brutally.

When her family of the victim came to know about it, they held a demonstration outside the CPO office and chanted slogans against police and the landlord.

 On the IGP’s orders, CPO Ashaq Ahamad Khan ordered an inquiry under Civil Lines SP Muhmaad Afzal. While the IGP took notice of the incident and directed the CPO to submit report on it within three days.
