Foolproof security measures to be taken during Ramazan

LAHORE: All available resources should be utilised for provision of security to 35,575 mosques and imam bargahs with 1,858 dastar khwans and Ramazan Bazaars across Punjab during Ramazan.

Inspector General of Police Punjab Captain (r) Arif Nawaz Khan expressed these views while addressing regional police officers and district police officers via video link on Wednesday.

Search, sweep, combing and intelligence based operations should be carried out in all sensitive places of the province and also in the vicinity of mosques and imam bargahs before the onset of Ramzan, the IGP added.

He further directed that all RPOs and DPOs should actively engage in devising a security plan and devise a mechanism to ensure smooth flow of traffic during Ramazan, especially ahead of iftar time.

He said that special attention should be given to the security of shopping centres, markets and banks and also snap checking and supervision of different locations, hotels, inns and guest houses should be ensured.

Additional IG Operations Amir Zulfiqar Khan while briefing the IG Punjab informed that more than 90,000 police officers, personnel, private security guards and volunteers will perform their security duties for 32,817 mosques and 2,758 imam bargahs. Police will be using 21,410 metal detectors and 1,839 walkthrough gates to ensure safety and security of worshippers at mosques and imam bargahs.

IG Punjab also directed that suggestions from administrators of mosques and imam bargahs should also be accommodated while drafting security plan. Patrolling of Dolphin squads and Quick Response Force during Fajar, Maghrib and Taravih prayers during Ramazan should be ensured.

He also directed that snipers should be deputed over roof tops of mosques and imam bargahs while no stone should be left unturned for provision of security. He directed that an efficient plan should also be devised for security of public in Ramazan Bazaars and Dastar Khwans. 

IG Punjab further added that during the last ashra of Ramazan markets, bazaars, shopping centres and other public places should be provided effective security. He has directed a special traffic plan that should be constituted during Ramazan in all districts and senior officers themselves should supervise its implementation.
