Inter-district gang busted; loot worth Rs5.2m recovered

KHANEWAL: Police on Sunday claimed to have busted a gang of dacoits and recovered looted material from them.

Addressing the media, the district police officer (DPO) announced that they busted a gang of eight dacoits four of whom were proclaimed offenders, and recovered the loot. DPO Faisal Mukhtar said the gang had been at large for long, and was finally arrested by a special team comprising expert and reliable police personnel of Khanewal.

He further said the gang was notorious in the districts of Khanewal, Vehari and adjoining areas. Items recovered included 16 cows, two gold jewellery sets, a passenger van, a delivery van and other items estimated to be worth around Rs5.2 million. Firearms recovered included three pistols with hundreds of rounds and other illegal weapons.

The DPO said he monitored the operation himself and was receiving reports daily from the special police team. The arrested were identified as Akhtar alias Shadda, Ashraf, Amjad, Imran and four others. They were wanted by various police stations of Khanewal and Vehari districts. Police were interrogating the arrested gang.
