265 accused arrested in crackdown

LAHORE: Cantt Division police, in a crackdown, claimed to have arrested 265 criminals and seized arms and drugs .

The police seized 31 pistols, one gun, bullets, more than three kg charas and 122 litre liquor.

Following the directions from Cantt Division SP Shehbaz Elahi, the police busted three gangs and arrested their five members along with recoveries worth more than Rs 9 lakh from them. Moreover, 55 proclaimed offenders of A&B categories in cases of dacoity, theft, cheque bounce, fraud and other crimes were arrested besides 40 court absconders.

Thousands of rupees were seized in an action against gamblers. Cantt Division Police also arrested 1,09 persons for violating the laws on kite flying, wheelie, firing, begging and price control.

All the divisional SPs have been given special task to arrest criminals involved in heinous crimes. Special teams have been constituted to capture proclaimed offenders particularly drug peddlers involved in selling narcotics in and around the educational institutions.

Lahore Police Operations Wing issued the facts and figures regarding its performance of February on Saturday. According to the report, as many as 175 members of 70 gangs of criminals were arrested and an amount of more than Rs 1 crore and Rs27 lakh was recovered from them.

During a grand operation against illegal weapons, Lahore Police arrested 419 criminals and recovered 32 rifles, four Kalashnikovs, 13 guns, 357 revolvers and pistols as well as more than 2,552 bullets from their possession. More than 11kg heroin, more than 221kg charas, more than 70kg opium and 6,597 litre liquor were recovered from 498 arrested accused.

Moreover, more than Rs 465,000 were recovered from 534 accused during crackdown on gambling. Lahore Police also arrested 143 criminals during its action against brothels in the City. As many as 1,975 criminals were arrested for violation of laws on wheelie, kite flying, firing, begging, price control, rent, marriage and loudspeakers, said the police report.

Rescue 1122: The Punjab Emergency Service director general reviewed the state of emergency preparedness of emergency ambulance, rescue and fire services in all districts of Punjab and the community emergency response teams (CERTs) at the union council level.

During the meeting held at Rescue 1122 Headquarters, the head of operations, Ayaz Aslam, briefed the DG that ambulance, rescue and fire services were placed on high alert in all 36 districts of Punjab. He stated that 762 ambulances, 294 fire vehicles, 63 rescue vehicles, 34 special vehicles, 756 boats and 900 motorbike ambulances were on high alert.

He briefed that the emergency response and management plans chalked out by all district emergency officers in consultation with all stakeholders in the district emergency board meetings for effective and efficient management of any untoward incident were being executed. Special Mobile Rescue posts have been providing with optimum emergency cover in case of any eventuality especially in Lahore and Sialkot.
