IG Punjab issued directions for speedy redressal of citizens and departmental matters
Inspector General Police Punjab Captain (R) Arif Nawaz Khan said that basic objective of police service is the protection of citizens, upholding the rule of law so public complaints against police can’t be deserted unaddressed and against such officers a departmental inquiry will be initiated and also the action will be taken not only against the SHO, s hindering the timely registration of FIRs but also against their circle officers, in case of no action DPO of the relevant districts will be held responsible and accountable. He further said that our objective is to play an effective role in establishing a peaceful society by taking practical steps to ensure the lives and properties of public. He expressed these views while presiding a high level meeting in Central Police Officer. In this meeting Additional IG Training Tariq Masood Yasin, Additional IG Operations Inam Ghani, Additional IG Welfare & Finance Rao Sardar, Additional IG Investigation Abubakar Khuda Baksh, Additional IG CTD Rai Tahir, Additional IG Internal Accountability Branch Zulfiqar Hameed, DIG Crimes Jawad Dogar DIG D&I Ahsan Younas, and AIG Complaints Zahid Nawaz Marwat were present.
Additional IG Internal Accountability Branch (IAB) briefed IGP in meeting about the initiatives for redressal of public complaints he further told that SP complaints from all the districts across Punjab are dealing public complaints on priority basis and with close monitoring of CPO their record is also being maintained. He further shared that during first 4 months of current year SP complaints addressed 7500 complaints regarding case registration out of these on 1317 complaints cases were registered ensuring a departmental action against the officials responsible. IG Punjab further said that death in police custody, torture and flee from custody is not accepted whatsoever and officials responsible for such leniency and carelessness will be dealt with zero tolerance and officers supporting such elements should also be ready for departmental action against them. He also said that only those will remain part of the Punjab police who are providing relief to the public and working with honesty and professionalism. He emphasized that we have to establish Punjab Police as a force which is known for its performance and with no other agenda else than public safety and protection. He further said that officers involved in callous behavior in investigation, or misreporting or distortion of the facts deserves no concession and will be held accountable also the DPO, s providing wrong and misleading information to IG office will be issued displeasure letters and will be held accountable.
While directing officers IG Punjab said that to control the crime, operations and investigation both are important departments so officers of both departments should improve their coordination gearing up the action against criminal and anti social elements. Police should play its effective role to investigate the cases based on the facts and proofs because usually this is most common public complaint against police, if a Police Station is performing its operational and investigative role meritoriously than a lot of public complaints will be automatically addressed. He said that to achieve best possible results along with refresher courses also strict departmental and legal action are being taken on public complaints.
