Kidnapped trader recovered; three suspects arrested

GUJRAT: Police claim to have recovered a trader who was kidnapped from Lalamusa and arrested three suspects for their involvement in the kidnapping.

On June 19, the suspects had introduced themselves as officials of the Federal Investigation Agency and kidnapped Ahsan Saleem Butt of Sirdarpura near Kaira village in the suburbs of the city. Later, they called Butt’s father and demanded a ransom of Rs500,000 to release his son.

Police said a case had been lodged against unidentified suspects by the Lalamusa police under sections 364A and 365A of PPC on the report of Saleem Butt, the father of the trader, and an investigation started.

District Police Officer Syed Ali Mohsin told Dawn that soon after the call was made to the father, police started chasing the suspects after tracing their location.

The police raided a hideout, recovered Butt and arrested three suspects. However police were searching for another accomplice of the suspects, who was actually their local facilitator.

Two of the suspects were residents of Jhelum district and third Bahria Town, Rawalpindi.
