IG’s surprise visit to police stations

LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police Arif Nawaz Khan has suspended a station house officer (SHO) from service and issued a letter of displeasure to a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) during his surprise visits to the police stations of Lahore and Sheikhupura.

The IG issued suspension order of the Badami Bagh SHO over incomplete record of the proclaimed offenders and letter of displeasure to the DSP of the same circle for the same reason.

During his surprise visits, he also heard complaints of the citizens present in various police stations and issued directions on their applications.

According to a police handout, the IGP announced that he would be paying surprise visits to the police stations across the province while issuing directions to the police officials to update the record or be ready for strict departmental action.

During his surprise visit to the Badami Bagh police station, the IG examined the record of cases under investigation, proclaimed offenders data, duty roaster and beat chart of the officials.

He asked about the status of the complaints received by the staff at the front desks and steps taken for redressing the grievances of the complainants.

He also passed orders for keeping recordings of the CCTV cameras installed in the lock-ups for at least one week to avoid complications in case of any untoward situation.

The IG also ordered lodging of first information reports (FIRs) on the applications of a citizen, Ibrar, and a women, Sadia Bibi, directing the officials to resolve their issues at the Badami Bagh police station.
