CTD arrests two ‘militants’

BAHAWALPUR: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed on Thursday to have arrested two alleged militants who belong to an outlawed organisation.

According to the CTD spokesman, the alleged terrorists identified as Irfan Siddiqui and Zaheer Iqbal were planning to attack sensitive installations. On a tip off, he said, the CTD personnel conducted a raid on their hideout in the city and arrested them. The officials also recovered explosives and other material.

The arrested men, said the spokesman, were shifted to an undisclosed place for interrogation.

VC: Multan Women University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Uzma Qureshi on Thursday assumed the charge “on a look after basis” of the post of the of the Government Sadiq College Women University, Bahawlpur (GSCWU) VC.

GSCWU PRO Ms Naeema Bhatti said a notification to the effect was received by the university’s administration.

The slot had been vacant for the last two weeks when former VC Prof Dr Talat Afza completed his four-year term on Aug 27.

DENGUE CASE: Another patient has been tested positive for dengue.

Doctors said Tasneem Ahmed, 23, was admitted to the BVH on Wednesday and was confirmed a dengue fever patient. He was shifted to the isolation ward.

MOBILE APP: The federal ombudsman’s regional office has launched a mobile App for the registration of people’s complaints.

The complainants may also have the option to join the hearing process through video conferences.

The ombudsman’s regional adviser, Muhammad Sarwar, said the technology would help people a great deal. He said people did not need to hire any lawyer or pay court fee.
