LAHORE:Inspector General of Police Punjab Inam Ghani has said that steps are being taken on a priority basis under effective use of modern technology and available resources to improve the police service delivery system and make Punjab Police a citizen support force for the promotion of people-friendly policing.

In this regard, implementation on the recommendations of the “Citizen-Centric Policing Conference” held in February under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Khan Buzdar had been ensured. He said that the conference, co-organised by USIP and the police, was working on recommendations for the convenience, protection and service of the common man, as well as prevention of gender-based crime. Women help desks have been set up for the help and guidance where easy relief is being provided to the distressed women.

The IG said that USIP should audit the initiatives of Punjab Police as a third party for the promotion of people-friendly policing and also give further suggestions in the light of its observations to improve police service delivery. He said that steps were being taken on a priority basis to increase the proportion of woman officers and personnel in the police force besides launching awareness campaign on social media for recruitment of lady officers on the sanctioned quota for women. The expressed these views during a meeting with a three-member USIP delegation led by former IG Ehsan Ghani at the Central Police Office here on Wednesday.

The USIP delegation included Country Director Dr Adnan Rafique and Programme Manager Komal Dilshad. Expressing satisfaction over the steps taken by the Punjab Police to promote people-friendly policing, the officers of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) said that the implementation of the road map drawn up by the Citizen-Centric Policing Conference would bring relief to the common citizens of the province.
