Oct 15, 2021

LAHORE: The regional police officers (RPOs) conference on Thursday approved the security plan for the Eid Miladun Nabi.

Under the plan, 55,000 police personnel will perform security duties. IGP Rao Sardar Ali Khan directed RPOs and other senior police officers to go into the field and inspect security arrangements. He said CCTV cameras, metal detectors and walk-through gates must be used for the security of sensitive processions. The IGP directed the police officers to intensify action against drug dealers in and around schools, colleges and universities. He stressed upon the field officers to take timely measures to prevent killings in the wake of old enmities.

He showed his displeasure over the poor planning by raiding teams, saying senior officers should supervise the entire process to prevent deaths and injuries to the policemen taking part in operations against criminals. He said he would not tolerate any negligence if a policeman got injured or died in raids against criminals due to poor planning.

The IGP said the incidents of violence, killing or escaping police custody were also not acceptable and strict departmental action would be taken against those responsible for this. He said officers on security duty of Eid Milad should be briefed properly to avoid any untoward incident and that search, sweep, combing and intelligence-based operations should be undertaken in the vicinity on a regular basis.
